Unlike most multipoint communications programs, the TrilogyEC does not use servers to relay information between clients. Instead, with the TrilogyEC, you create your own private multipoint relay environment, allowing you to easily implement your own secure communication topology. Your data is never, ever exposed to the risk of public servers. Programs such as AOL Instant, Yahoo Messenger, Envoke, WebEx, and nearly all others provide some measure of security, but ultimately house your information on a server. Even with the best intentions in mind, any time information is collected in a centralized location, it begins to be vulnerable.
The trend in the world of chat / IM applications has been to create programs that were the most compatible with other platforms. For instance, several now bridge the user communities of AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ and MSN Messenger. Compatibility is great, but it comes at a cost.
Each time that an application is made "more compatible" with another, security is slightly diminished. Vulnerabilities begin to arise such as "man in the middle" and "replay" attacks where holes in the security architecture are exploited. With a complete disregard for compatibility, TSI was free to engineer the TrilogyEC for the absolute highest levels of security. If your primary concern is "how many millions of people can I chat with today", then use a program like AOL Instant Messenger or Trillian. Both of these programs (and many others like it) are perfect for casual conversations. However, if your primary concern is "how many millions of years would it take for someone to crack this communication", then we strongly recommend the TrilogyEC.
TrilogyEC allows users to communicate via completely encrypted text chat. Every message is encrypted using the Rijndael algorithm (Advanced Encryption Standard) with a key length of 256 bits. This key can be either a pre-defined key to allow for the highest level of connectivity with other users, or can be user-generated, allowing for the utmost levels of secrecy.
To put that in perspective, consider this: today, it requires a network of fast computers working together several minutes to crack a key length of 56 bits. Even if one were to use a supercomputer capable of cracking a 56 bit key in a single second, then it would still take that machine approximately 149 thousand-billion (149 trillion) years to crack just a 128-bit AES key. A 256 bit key, such as the ones used by the TrilogyEC, are not simply twice as hard to crack, but 2128 times as hard.
Messages can be sent privately to individuals (one on one chat) or to everyone currently participating in the session (group chat). Additionally, groups of people may establish an Ultra-Secure "tunnel" through the current chat session, allowing for private conversations within private conversations.
TrilogyEC allows users to electronically transmit files with complete security. While other programs and services provide for file encryption, Trilogy Solutions designed the TrilogyEC to go a step further. To maximize your available bandwidth, the TrilogyEC compresses every file prior to encryption. The encryption here is the same 256 bit AES used to protect your chat messages. The TrilogyEC then takes several steps to ensure that your file is sent only to your desired recipient
